While a straight-laced young man meeting a free-spirited young woman is pretty well-tread territory, Jen Wang's Koko Be Good (First Second, 2010) is surprisingly sensitive and nuanced. This week s featured pets for adoption include Robbie the cat, Sadie the dog, Koko the cat, Scooby the dog, Wednesday the cat, Noah the dog, Fiona the cat and Hunter the dog. I'm a multi-published author of multicultural romance. My publishers include: Ellora's Cave, Loose-Id, Red Sage, and Red Rose Publishing. I recently got Koko, Be Good from my local library (that's where I get all my comics… sigh) and read through it. The crowd reacted positively to the songs, and the sound filled the venue nicely, and enabled the Jezabels to basically own it. This is just a bit different from the Batman graphic novels I'd read previously. The new comic is titled Koko Be Good, and is just as entertaining as the title suggests. The a la carte pricing of this dish stunned me a little. KOKO is a good sized venue for the Jezabels. Koko is looking for a new best friend. Jen Wang's Koko Be Good continues publisher FirstSecond's amazing run of thought-provoking, challenging graphic novels for adults.
